Course Description

June 1st marks the beginning of hurricane season in Hawaii. As healthcare professionals, it is crucial to be aware of the potential impact of a hurricane and develop strategic plans to reduce the impact or mitigate where possible while maintaining services to the patients and residents in our care.

Join us as Marc Moriguchi, Director of Hawaii Healthcare Emergency Management (HHEM), reviews disaster preparedness measures for healthcare and lessons learned through a look back at real-world weather events.

Participants will:

  • Discuss lessons learned from the past

  • Explore key areas for preparedness

  • Examine local resources for emergency preparedness and support

Individuals working in a healthcare facility including executive leadership, clinical staff, social services, environmental services, dietary, and designated emergency management personnel.

Marc Moriguchi, EMTP

Marc Moriguchi has a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration/Disaster Preparedness & Emergency Management from the University of Hawaii West Oahu. He is a licensed paramedic in the state of Hawaii with 30 years of experience in prehospital care and 14 years as a Federal Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT) member.

He joined Hawaii Healthcare Emergency Management in June of 2019 working on planning and training and was promoted to Director in October 2020.

 

Continuing Education

Valid for the live webinar and recording (through 5/18/2023): This nursing continuing professional development activity was approved by the Oregon Nurses Association, an accredited approver of the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation for one (1) nursing contact hour. Valid for the live webinar only: This program was approved by the National Association of Social Workers - Hawai’i Chapter (Approval HI62792021-154) for one (1) Social Work continuing education hour.

State licensure boards have final authority on the acceptance of individual courses. There is no conflict of interest for any planner or presenter with this learning activity.

To receive a Certificate of Completion, each individual must register, pay the registration fee (if applicable), attend the session, and complete the corresponding evaluation.
