Course Description

Emergency preparedness is critical for healthcare providers. Join us as Marc Moriguchi, Director of Hawaii Healthcare Emergency Management (HHEM), shares information on recent local events that have impacted our communities and discusses strategies to improve disaster preparedness. Attendees will:

  1. Recognize the impact of recent events on healthcare system readiness by examining lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic, Red Hill fuel contamination, the Salt Lake fireworks incident, and the Lahaina wildfires.

  2. Identify vulnerabilities and opportunities in Hawaii's geographically isolated healthcare system, including supply chain disruptions, inter island patient transport, and communication limitations.

  3. Apply practical strategies to improve healthcare disaster preparedness, including coordination with state and federal partners, contingency communications, and developing facility specific response plans for high impact scenarios.

This webinar will be recorded and made available on the HAH website for on-demand viewing. There are no continuing education credits associated with this training.

Marc Moriguchi, EMTP

Marc Moriguchi has a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration/Disaster Preparedness & Emergency Management from the University of Hawaii West Oahu. He is a licensed paramedic in the state of Hawaii with 33 years of experience in prehospital care and 14 years as a Federal Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT) member.

He is the Director of Hawaii Healthcare Emergency Management, having joined the organization in June of 2019.
