Overview
The Healthcare Association of Hawaii is pleased to host our annual Joint Commission Resources (JCR) Conference!
The Joint Commission (TJC) accredits and certifies nearly 21,000 healthcare organizations and programs in the United States. Joint Commission accreditation and certification is recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to meeting certain performance standards.
The mission of Joint Commission Resources is to continuously improve the safety and quality of healthcare in the United States and in the international community through the provision of education, publications, consultation, and evaluation services. Their services assist in preparing accredited providers for survey.
This two-day in-person conference focuses on providing information on new standards and regulatory updates, survey trends, infection prevention and control, environment of care, emergency management, and more.
New This Year - Breakouts on Day 2
Based on member feedback, we are introducing something new this year. On Day 2 of the conference, we will offer two tracks: Clinical and Environment of Care (EOC). On this day, we will dive deeper into the areas impacting the different disciplines with ample opportunity to engage with the speakers.
Target Audience
Target audience includes all acute care personnel responsible for compliance including but not limited to physicians, nursing staff and leaders, infection preventionists, facilities personnel, security, and emergency management staff
Agenda
Join us as we all meet together on Day 1 to discuss a range of topics directed toward both clinical and EOC teams. Choose your track and engage with colleagues through the breakout groups on Day 2! Participants will have the opportunity to take a deeper dive into areas impacting their discipline with ample opportunity to engage with the speakers.

Dr. Candace Eden has been an RN for 40+ years with a total of 28 years of leadership experience with the last 13 at an Executive level in Quality, Risk and Patient Safety. She has worked in a tertiary care setting, Foundation health plan and medical group setting (Kaiser-Permanente), community hospital setting, with ambulatory clinics and physician practices, opened a new observation unit (OH), and opened a new pediatric hospital in Orlando (Nemours). She has her Doctorate in Executive Nursing Practice and has obtained certifications in Nursing leadership, Quality, Patient Safety and Risk Management.
Background
Active licensed RN with 40+ years of experience; (licensed in FL & GA).
Clinical Expertise: emergency, trauma, cardiology, open-heart. Worked in trauma center, tertiary care centers, community hospitals, ambulatory care sites, patient experience provider, and opened free-standing new pediatric hospital.
Nursing, Quality & Patient Safety Executive Leadership positions last 13 years.
Nurse manager/opened cardiac observation unit; with pre-cath, post-cath and observation patient population. Licensed Risk Manager since 1997, director roles in quality & patient safety for 15 years, executive role as patient experience clinical consultant for HCAPHS scores.
Trained in Change Management tactics.
Experience in development, implementation and reconsideration of Performance Improvement and regulatory processes and measures.

Mr. Edward Browne has over 35 years as a healthcare engineer and manager. He has managed facility, safety, security, support service, and clinical departments in a wide variety of healthcare settings – from community hospitals to regional healthcare systems to tertiary teaching institutions including long term and chronic disease. Mr. Browne’s specialties also include environment of care, life safety, construction, emergency preparedness, hazardous materials management, security, food services, environmental services, and real estate.
Mr. Browne has worked nationwide as an environment of care consultant in diverse situations including mental health and pediatric facilities. He has implemented best practices, bringing his expertise to help facilities work through specific problems and has published numerous articles in several national publications on topics specific to our industry.

Ms. Mary Cole’s experience acquired from numerous clinical settings provides the framework for her approach to utilizing standardization and evidenced based practices in the health care environment.
Ms. Cole has worked in infection prevention and control for greater than 15 years, most recently as the Director of Infection Prevention and Control at a large academic trauma center in Atlanta, Georgia. During this time, Mary was instrumental in developing a Tier 1 Ebola Care Unit at Grady Health System. She has actively participated in numerous successful Joint Commission surveys.
Ms. Cole has experience in leadership, education, and performance improvement, which has led to significant decreases in infections. She has produced multiple publications and received awards related to infection prevention and control. Additionally, she is a Certified Yellow Belt. With this designation, she supports The Joint Commission’s activities associated with establishing and sustaining a Robust Process Improvement® (RPI®) culture. As a Certified Yellow Belt, Ms. Cole is trained in the foundational concepts and tools of problem solving and makes improvements to better meet customer expectations and organization objectives.

Full attendance at every session and completion of a post-engagement survey are prerequisites for receiving continuing education credits.
In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by the Healthcare Association of Hawaii and Joint Commission Resources. Joint Commission Resources is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
By attending the 2024 Joint Commission Hospital Accreditation Update program offered by Joint Commission Resources, participants may earn up to 14.0 ACHE Qualifying Education Hours toward initial certification or recertification of the Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) designation.
Location
This conference will be held at the Ala Moana Hotel located at 410 Atkinson Dr. in Honolulu, HI, 96814. The training will be in the Hibiscus Ballroom I, on the 2nd floor above the lobby.
Parking validation (10 hours) for self-parking in the hotel parking garage will be provided. Please note valet parking is not covered. It is the responsibility of the individual and costs $35 per vehicle.
Refreshments will include the following:

Registration includes access to the conference, associated presentation materials as issued by JCR, continental breakfast, lunch and refreshments, 10-hour validated self-parking in the Ala Moana Hotel’s parking garage, and the ability to download/print your CE certificate upon completion of the requirements. Attendance at all sessions on both days is a requirement to receive a CE certificate.
The following rates are per individual. Split registrations are not accepted. Registration is not final until payment has been received.
